What about the RAIN?

Many of you may be wondering how our Region handles rainy days for practices or games.  Here is a brief summary of what to do in the event of rain.

1).  ALWAYS check the website as your FIRST official news item.  At the left hand side, we have the Official Weather Decision.  It is updated for days that may be in question....(Now is a good time to bookmark our Region's website in your web browser).

NOTE:  Soccer is played in all types of weather.  A little rain is not necessarily cause to cancel games.
 so...what is our decision-making tree?

2).  The Commissioner and Director of Safety have the ultimate authority to cancel games....if ALL games are cancelled, the website will reflect it.  To make this type of decision is a MAJOR, CRITICAL decision that is hard to undo half-way through a day when it suddenly starts to clear up.  It is RARE to cancel an entire day unless conditions call for such extremes...otherwise, we may play some games and cancel others on a case-by-case basis.

3).  IF there is a bit of rain, and the website indicates that GAMES might still be played, it is recommended to show up to your scheduled game time.  At this point, we are deferring the game-time decisions to the REFEREES..based on the conditions of the field and the weather at your particular field location.  IF they feel a field poses a safety risk, they may cancel the game.   As you know, at times it may be raining in So Pas, but NOT in San Marino.  Therefore, games may be played in one part of the Region and not in another.  OR, some fields may be more dangerous than other fields that may not drain as easily...and therefore, some fields may have games and some may not, even in the same general area....again, depending on the referee's decision.  Furthermore, just because morning games are cancelled, does not mean afternoon games will be too.

Therefore, ONLY when you see the weather decision from the Region indicating ALL games are cancelled in the Region, should you stay home;  otherwise, it will be a game-time decision.

NOTE:  As a parent, you ALWAYS have the right to pull your child from the field and not participate in the game if you feel the conditions are not safe for him/her, despite the Region's or Ref's decision to allow games to continue.

4).  Finally, the three primary reasons to cancel games would typically be:

a.  Lightening in the area
b.  Unsafe conditions of the field which poses a safety risk for children/refs.
c.  Standing water or VERY muddy field conditions that will cause permanent damage to the fields if games continue.

We take the Safety of our players and the preservation of our fields very seriously, and will make decisions that are appropriate to the conditions of the field, its location, and the weather at the time in question.

Enjoy soccer...in ALL types of weather.
