EXTRA

AYSO EXTRA PROGRAM in Region 214

AYSO EXTRA, a COMPETITIVE PROGRESSIVE PLAYER PROGRAM, is designed for players who have the interest, skills, abilities and commitment to enhance their experience and individual growth through soccer while retaining the spirit of AYSO. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow the standard primary program – rather the goal is to strengthen AYSO by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers through providing more competitive play the AYSO way – all EXTRA programs embrace the Six Philosophies of AYSO. Additional information on the AYSO EXTRA program can be found at AYSO.org and at AYSO Section 1 West.

AYSO EXTRA Side by Side Tryouts* will be offered in Region 214 in the following divisions:

Division Number of Players on the Field Number of Players on the Roster Coach Certification Required Referee Certification Required** (3)
10U 7 10 U12 Intermediate
11U-12U 9 12 Intermediate Intermediate
13U-14U 11 15 Advanced Advanced

* Tryouts in Divisions where there are not enough qualified players or appropriately trained volunteers may be cancelled.
** Referees must be at this level or actively working to obtain this level (must have attended the course and passed the physical and law exams).

AYSO Region 214 is offering a Side by Side EXTRA™ Program. Due to the competitive nature of the EXTRA program, a player on the EXTRA™ team will only be registered on the EXTRA™ team which will run from September through February, including a regular season, competitive league playoffs and tournaments.  Side by Side EXTRA™ players are NOT eligible for the regular fall season and All-Stars, but can choose to participate in Spring and/or Tournaments. Players can not be on an AYSO Region 214 EXTRA roster and a soccer club roster simultaneously.

EXTRA™ Program games will be played on Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout AYSO Section 1, with approximately half of the games on Region 214 fields and the remainder throughout AYSO Section 1 (primarily Los Angeles County). All players are guaranteed to play 50% of each game in regular season EXTRA play.

Players will participate in a minimum of two practice sessions a week on Region 214 fields. One will be led by their coach and one by a dedicated EXTRA trainer.

Team Selection
To be a fully formed and fully functioning AYSO Region 214 EXTRA Team, the team will consist of:

  • One parent of every child will complete volunteer registration, take Safe Haven and Concussion Training and perform 20 hours of volunteer duty for the Region. The duties below will not be overlapping (e.g., the Coach can not also be the Tournament Team Manager)
  • One Coach with the appropriate certifications for the age group as described above.
  • Three Referees with the appropriate certifications for the age group as described above. Each Referee commits to refereeing 20 games during the Fall Season (beyond Tournaments and EXTRA requirements for the team) and upgrading their skills and their badge.
  • One Team Manager
  • One Tournament Team Manager
Player Selection
Players are selected for Region 214’s EXTRA™ Program team based on evaluations by impartial evaluators at standardized tryouts.  Full participation in at least one tryout session is a requirement for selection, although multiple attendances may give players an advantage. Players must also:
  • Register for the Regular AYSO 214 Fall Season through Regular Registration (players who make the EXTRA team are then transferred over to the EXTRA program once their payments are complete).
  • Register for the AYSO EXTRA Tryout program through www.ayso214.org. Make sure to pay the $0 tryout fee and checkout.
  • Upload a current player head shot (full face, no sunglasses or hats) in the Player's Account at www.ayso214.org.
Parent Participation
With EXTRA Play comes EXTRA Responsibility. Every EXTRA family is REQUIRED to participate in a significant region wide volunteer opportunity to support the Region and/or the EXTRA Program. The EXTRA responsibility must be approved by the EXTRA Coordinator.

Cost
There are 3 fees for players participating in the Extra program:
   1) Players will pay the AYSO National Membership Fee $20
   2) Players will pay the AYSO Region 214 Fall Registration fee $170
   3) Then an additional AYSO Region 214 EXTRA fee of $550 which will be paid completely by June 1st. This will include:
  • Full uniform
  • Backpack
  • Two Tournaments (typically August and January)
  • Dedicated Trainer for the EXTRA Program (costs may be additional) during the EXTRA season
  • Administrative Costs (e.g., yearly tryouts, EXTRA program fees)

An individual team or group of EXTRA teams may choose to pay for more services as a team (e.g, additional technical training, fitness and agility training, tournaments, warm up suits, etc). All theses services must be paid through the region. No individual agreements between teams, parents and trainers or other vendors may be made.

AYSO EXTRA Tryout Information

AYSO Extra Tryouts will be held on the dates below. Players must complete and pay for BOTH the Fall Registration and EXTRA Registration prior to tryouts. Players will not be allowed to participate in the tryouts until both these registrations are completed. The player must bring the completed Player Registration forms for BOTH the Fall Season and the EXTRA program to the tryouts.
Players MUST attend a minimum of ONE tryout to be eligible for the team but can attend multiple tryouts. Multiple tryout attendances do seem to give players an advantage.
