What is EXTRA: A COMPETITIVE PROGRESSIVE PLAYER PROGRAM - designed for players who have the interest, skills, abilities, and commitment to enhance their soccer experience while retaining the spirit of AYSO.

AYSO Region 214 is offering a Side-by-Side EXTRA™ Program which will run from August through February - including a regular season, league playoffs and tournaments. Selected EXTRA™ players are NOT eligible for the Core Fall Season, All-Stars nor can be registered on a Club Soccer Roster.

EXTRA™ Program games will be played on Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout AYSO Section 1. Approximately half of the games will be played on Region 214 fields and the remainder throughout AYSO Section 1 (which includes Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties). All players are guaranteed to play at least 50% of each game in regular season play.

What it takes to form an EXTRA Team

Head Coach with appropriate certifications
Assistant Coach with appropriate certifications
Referees (4+) with the appropriate certifications

Each referee commits to a minimum number Total Games and badge upgrade

Cost

AYSO National Membership Fee - $25
AYSO Region 214 Fall Registration Fee - $195
AYSO Region 214 EXTRA Fee - $630 (which will be paid completely by July 1)

Upon accepting the position and uniforms ordered, no refunds will be issued for voluntary withdrawal of players. Extra uniforms and equipment will also remain with the team. There will be no exceptions to this. Please take this into consideration when you are accepting a position for your player.

Tryouts
Will be hosting 3 tryout dates at South Pasadena Middle School. Players must attend at minimum 2 of the dates to be considered for a team. Every player must try out since existing players are not guaranteed a returning spot.

AYSO is transitioning to a school-year age grouping system starting in the 2026-2027 season. This change will align player birthdates with the academic calendar, allowing payers to be grouped with their school classmates.

Divisions will now be according to these birthdates-

U10: August 1, 2016 - July 31, 2017
U11: August 1, 2015 - July 31, 2016
U12: August 1, 2014 - July 31, 2015
U13: August 1, 2013 - July 31, 2014
U14: August 1, 2012 - July 31, 2013

What to bring to tryouts -
-ball
-cleats
-water
-generic athletic attire (current extra players should not wear the current or prior Extra uniform kit during tryouts)
-positive attitude!

Players wanting to "play-up" will need to attend the division they would like to be placed in to be considered. This is on a case-by-case basis with prior coach evaluations also being considered.

Teams will be announced by 3/23/2026.
