AYSO 214 South Pasadena/San Marino

Fall Core Program

Fall Core Program

The Fall season is the primary program for Region 214 soccer. Approximately 2,000 players ranging from 3 to 18 years of age play on over 220 teams in 10-11 matches from September through November each year, including playoffs for older divisions (specific dates vary by year.) The majority of our players live in South Pasadena and San Marino, but players from nearby cities are welcome as registration is open to all players.

  • All players are part of balanced teams and we require new players in upper divisions to attend a player evaluation session.
  • All players play 3/4 of each game attended, except in rare cases where team size allows only 1/2.

Fall Schedule

Here are the schedule guidelines (This should give you a general idea. Details will be released in August).

  • Team Formation is  August
  • Match Schedules built in Late August
  • Programs begin Saturday After Labor Day
  • Practices and games are on Saturday for players 5 years and younger
  • Practices are one night a week for players 6 and older
  • All our matches are complete by Thanksgiving. Division winners 8 - 14 yrs will play in an Area Championship in December

NOTE: The fall season is Open Registration and we will try to place every applicant on a team, unfortunately in some situations we will not be able to place players due to a lack of volunteers. Team formation requires Coaches, Referees and Team Parents, players will be turned away if we do not have sufficient volunteers. Consider volunteering in one of these key roles, training is available.

What division will my child play in?

Players will be placed in divisions by birth year. In some younger divisions these divisions are single year groups, in older divisions, two birth years are combined.  We do not deviate from birth year for the Fall Core Program. Click here for the birth year and division matrix.

What if my child can't attend their team's practice time?

As an all volunteer organization, only the coach determines the team's practice time. If you can't coach, options for parents whose children are unable to attend their team's regular practice are:

  1. Practice with another team and play games with your assigned team. The region can guide you to a practice that may fit your schedule.
  2. Not attend practices, but play games with your assigned team.
  3. Drop to the waitlist and wait for a spot to open on another team. And while our goal is to place every child who registers, competitive balance is the first consideration when filling those openings, and your player is not guaranteed placement.

Can I choose my child's teammates?

Balanced teams is a core philosophy of the AYSO program.  However if you have a coach and a referee and would like to be on the same team, we would welcome your team/parent partnership and will immediately place you on the same team. Please reach out to [email protected] with your request.

What if my child no longer wants to play?

Withdrawals that occur after 30 days before the start of the first week of practice, but before roster distribution will be considered “late drops”. Late drops will be issued a credit towards future programs ONLY if we are able to fill your child's roster spot with someone from the waitlist.

Any other extenuating refund requests will be handled at the discretion of the Regional Commissioner.

What if my family needs financial support to play?

Region 214 offers support for families who wish to play but the financial burden may be too much to take on. Click here to submit a scholarship request form.
